I sit in my small dorm room, surrounded by the faint glow of twinkling stars outside my window. My heart aches with every passing day, longing for the warmth and love of my family. But I know I'm here for a reason to chase my dreams and make my Lola proud.
Growing up in a poor household, life was never easy. My parents worked tirelessly to make ends meet, but we always struggled to get by. Despite the hardships, my Lola's unwavering support and encouragement fueled my determination to succeed.
She'd often tell me, "Kahit mahirap kami, pero may pag-asa ka. Mag-aral ka ng mabuti, at makakamit mo ang mga pangarap mo." (Even though we're poor, you have hope. Study well, and you'll achieve your dreams.)
But life had other plans. My Lola passed away, leaving me with a deep sense of loss and a burning desire to make her proud. I knew I had to push forward, no matter how difficult the journey would be.
My mama's words echo in my mind every day: "Pagtarong mo ug eskwela kay para rana ninyo naa rami dinhi nga always mo support ug ayaw tagda kung unsay isulti sa uban maong kamo padayon kay always rami naas inyong kilid nga mo supporta ninyo forever." (Keep studying, because we're all here to support you. Don't mind what others say, just focus on your goals, because we'll always be here to support you forever.)
Now, as a Grade 12 student, I'm one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a nurse. It's not easy, of course – the long hours, the endless studying, the sacrifices I make every day. But every time I feel like giving up, I remember Lola's words, Mama's words, and the promise I made to them.
I'll make it, Lola. I'll make you proud. I'll become a nurse and help those in need, just like you always taught me to do. I'll make a difference, and I'll make sure your memory lives on through me.
I'll make it, Mama. I'll make you proud. I'll succeed and make a better life for our family. I'll prove to myself and to everyone that we may be poor, but we're not powerless.
As I drift off to sleep, I smile, knowing that Lola's spirit and Mama's love are with me, guiding me every step of the way. Tomorrow, I'll wake up, ready to face another day, another challenge, and another opportunity to make my dreams a reality.
