The struggle is real, from managing conflicts within the organization to balancing academic responsibilities, I faced numerous struggles that threatened to ruin my plans. There were times when I felt overwhelmed, unsure of how to tackle the problems that seemed difficult.
Despite the struggles, I learned valuable lessons that have shaped me into a stronger, more resilient leader. Effective communication is the foundation of any successful organization. I learned to listen actively, clear my thoughts, and respond to concerns. As a leader, it's essential to empower others to take ownership of their roles. I learned to manage tasks, provide guidance, and trust my team members to deliver. Leadership it not a sprint, it's a marathon. I learned to keep up myself, stay focused, and push through challenges, even when time got tough.
The struggles I faced as an SSLG President were worth it. I gained valuable experience, developed leadership skills, and formed lasting relationships with my peers. More importantly, I learned to believe in myself and my abilities, even when faced with uncertainty.
My journey as an SSLG President at Badiang National High School was not without challenges. However, it was through those struggles that I grew, learned, and developed into stronger, more resilient leader. To anyone who may be facing similar challenges, I offer these words of encouragement: persevere, stay focused, and believe in yourself. The payoff will be worth it.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) announced plans to further reduce rice prices in Kadiwa stores, making the staple food more affordable for Filipinos. The DA will reduce rice prices under the Rice-for-All (RFA) program, available at Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) stores, starting February 12th. Prices will be lowered by as much as ₱3 per kilo. Currently, RFA5 rice (with no more than 5% broken grain) is priced at ₱45 per kilo, RFA25 (25% broken) at ₱38, and RFA100 (100% broken) at ₱36. Starting February 12th, RFA5 rice will be priced at ₱43 per kilo, RFA25 at ₱35, and RFA100 at ₱33.The price reduction reflects a drop in global rice prices and an increase in domestic supply as the local harvest season gets underway.
The KNP program will continue to provide rice at ₱29 per kilo, which will only be available for vulnerable sectors. This rice comes from aging stocks of the National Food Authority (NFA).
The DA's move to trim down RFA prices is in line with Executive Order (EO) No. 62 of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last year, which cut rice tariffs from 35% to 15%. The DA is also working to ensure fair compensation for local farmers by procuring palay (unmilled rice) at a price of ₱21 to ₱23 per kilo. The NFA will release approximately 150,000 metric tons (MT) of rice based on the recent declaration of a good security emergency on rice. The DA's efforts to reduce rice prices in Kadiwa stores are part of a broader strategy to address rising food prices and ease the pressure on inflation.
“So November of 2023, there were already lawyers doing their work for the impeachment. We leave it to the lawyers,” Duterte said. “I’m okay,” she added.Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives on Wednesday for "violation of the constitution, betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, and other high crimes".The Senate must convene a tribunal to try the vice president. If convicted, she will be removed from her post and barred from public office."I have not talked to my friends in the Senate," Duterte said. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has swatted down any suggestion he played a role in her impeachment process.“The executive cannot have a hand in the impeachment. Walang role ang executive sa impeachment,” Marcos said on Thursday. “Did we discuss it with the Speaker, did we discuss it with the other congressmen? Of course. Tinatanong (ko), ‘Ano ba talaga ang plano ninyo, ano ang gusto nyong gawin?’ ‘Nandito na ito eh, hindi na namin maiwasan.’”
Senate President Francis Escudero told reporters that Duterte's trial would probably not finish before the next congress takes over in July. This could effectively mean Duterte's tribunal will be composed of entirely different members at the start and close of the trial. It will likely "extend into the 20th Congress. That's almost a sure thing now," he said.Speaking at a separate press conference, House Deputy Majority Leader Lorenz Defensor agreed the trial "may cross over to the next Congress", whose members will be determined by countrywide elections on May 12.
The set up of this tribunal could give Duterte ammunition to challenge her impeachment's legality, said Dennis Coronacion, head of the political science department at Manila's University of Santo Tomas.Because an impeachment voted on by sitting lawmakers could be tried by an incoming class, there was "speculation this will give the vice president a legal remedy and allow her to challenge that in the Supreme Court."The potential election of pro-Duterte senators to the body could also eliminate the two-thirds majority needed to secure a conviction, he added.Duterte, who has yet to publicly comment on her impeachment, was widely tipped to succeed her father Rodrigo as president in 2022 elections but stepped aside to back Marcos and later ran for vice president on his ticket. But the alliance has since imploded. In November, she delivered an expletive-laden speech saying she had ordered someone to kill Marcos if she herself was assassinated. She later denied that her comments constituted a death threat, saying she had only been expressing "consternation" with the administration's failures.

The second episode of Bidlisiw sa Kagahapon was a meaningful presentation that brought to life the customary practices of the past. Through the colorful reenactment of past life, from the traditional gesture of respect (pagmamano), eating together at the dining table, to playing traditional games, the drama showcased how the simple life back then was filled with respect, discipline, and family values. The addition of more characters in the second episode brought deeper emotions to the story, further clarifying the show's message.
One of the important messages of the show is the significant difference between the youth of the past and the present. Before, respect for parents was not only shown in words but also in actions and deeds. There is fear and obedience towards parents, and the punishments for wrongdoings become a way to learn from mistakes. Currently, these customs are gradually disappearing due to modern times; children are becoming more obsessed with their cellphones than bonding with their families, and respect for parents seems to be disappearing from the vocabulary of some young people. Because of this, many parents find it difficult to discipline their children, resulting in a lack of discipline and appreciation for traditional values.
However, technology should not be an obstacle to completely losing the good practices of the past. The goal of Bidlisiw sa Kagahapon is not to hinder change or our progress but to remind us that there are customs we should uphold. Respect for elders, discipline, and valuing family should not vanish like a bubble, even as times change and expand. Therefore, let us maintain Filipino customs such as respecting the elders because this type of presentation is timely as it serves as a guide for our youth to understand the value and tradition of valuing family and society.
At the end of the drama, Filipinos have golden hearts, and the Filipino race is rich in culture and values. This is an important lesson left for the viewers: progress does not mean forgetting our heritage and our customs and culture. We should revisit the beautiful customs of the past and pass them on to the next generation. In this way, "Bidlisiw sa Kagahapon" is not just a play but a reminder that amidst change, our identity and appreciation for family should remain strong and unshaken by anything. May it serve as an inspiration or guide to our youth to value their families more and not forget the customs and traditions that strengthen our identity as a nation.
